Tax revenues in Curaçao in April significantly higher than budgeted

Local | By Correspondent May 17, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - According to the Ministry of Finance, April ended on a very positive note in terms of tax and social premium revenues. Nearly nineteen million guilders more than budgeted flowed into the state treasury. This represents a growth of over seventeen percent compared to the previous month. Social premium revenues exceeded the budget by over six million guilders (9.5 percent).

The main reason for the higher tax revenues is the increased receipts from profit tax. Since entrepreneurs had until April 2nd to submit their provisional declaration for 2023, nineteen million guilders in profit tax for the provisional declaration of 2023 were received in April.

In addition to the extra profit tax received, revenues from turnover tax also exceeded the budget: nearly 56 million compared to the budgeted fifty million. Of this amount, over 15 million guilders were collected by customs.

In the first four months, customs collected 55 million guilders in turnover tax, which is 19 percent higher than in the first four months of 2023 (46 million guilders).

Currently, property tax revenues are still significantly below the budget. Recently, the imposition of property tax assessments for the year 2024 has begun. In addition, the property tax department of the tax authorities will be temporarily reinforced to address administrative backlogs. It is therefore expected that the backlog in property tax revenues will be recovered within the year.
