WILLEMSTAD – A female tax official in Curaçao is on trial for allegedly leaking confidential information to third parties. The case surfaced during an investigation into a police officer suspected of other criminal activities, who reportedly requested the data from the official.
According to the prosecutor, the tax official shared personal information about colleagues and members of the police management team without questioning the purpose of the request. The investigation into her conduct began after messages were discovered on the police officer’s phone explicitly asking for sensitive information.
The prosecution is seeking a conditional prison sentence of two months, a probation period of three years, and 120 hours of community service. Additionally, a three-year suspension from her position is being demanded.
During the hearing, the accused expressed regret for her actions. Her defense attorney argued for acquittal, claiming that no tax data was disclosed, only personal information. The court is expected to deliver its verdict soon.
