Tax authority of Curaçao offers waiver of collection interest with payment arrangement by July 1st

Local | By Correspondent June 12, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Taxpayers in Curaçao have until the end of this month to arrange a payment arrangement with the Tax Authority for their outstanding debts.

By doing so, they can avoid the imposition of nearly seven percent collection interest on these debts. Since April 1st, this interest has been levied by the Tax Authority. Both individual and business taxpayers can take advantage of this arrangement.

If they comply with the conditions of the payment arrangement, no collection interest will be charged. However, if they fail to meet the conditions, collection interest will be retroactively imposed on the remaining outstanding amount.

This transitional arrangement has been introduced to prevent taxpayers from incurring unnecessary costs. For the vast majority of them, it is not necessary to visit the Tax Authority at the WTC. A request for the debtor's card or an application for a payment arrangement can be submitted to the tax authority via email.

The Tax Authority emphasizes that, starting from July 1st, collection interest will be charged in all cases. This also applies if a payment arrangement is made after this date.
