Tax agreement between the Netherlands and Curaçao ready for discussion in Parliament

Local | By Correspondent May 3, 2023

THE HAGUE, WILLEMSTAD - The Tax Arrangement Netherlands Curaçao (BRNC) can now be discussed by the Parliament of Curaçao and the Dutch Second Chamber. This was announced by the Dutch government.

The advice of the (Curaçao) Council of Advice and the Council of State regarding the arrangement has been incorporated into the Kingdom Act. Marnix van Rij, the Dutch State Secretary of Finance, is sending the proposal with an explanation to the parliaments.

The Council of State and the Council of Advice requested a simplified explanation of the reason for the amendment. The councils made some suggestions to better align the arrangement with Curaçao's legislation in this area. Furthermore, there were few substantive comments.

The amendments to the BRNC are one of the reforms that are a condition of the loans provided during the COVID-19 pandemic. In June 2022, the Kingdom Council of Ministers agreed to the Kingdom Act, after which the proposal was sent to the Council of Advice and the Council of State.
