WILLEMSTAD - On Saturday, 22 November 2025, the JPF grounds in Plantersrust will transform into a vibrant festival of flavor, music and culture during “Taste of Suriname Curaçao – 50 Years Srefidensi.” The event, organized by Surinam Airways in collaboration with the JPF Association, marks fifty years of Surinamese independence and highlights the warm and ever-growing bond between Suriname and Curaçao.

The celebration is made possible thanks to a large group of Surinamese companies traveling to Curaçao specifically for the occasion, as well as local businesses with strong ties to Suriname and the Surinamese community.

The venue at Weg Naar Welgelegen #3 will be completely redesigned into a colorful and atmospheric setting reflecting Suriname’s rich cultural diversity — from Hindustani and Javanese to Creole, Chinese and Indigenous influences. The décor and event styling will showcase Suriname’s lively identity in full.

Visitors will have the chance to literally taste Srefidensi. Surinamese producers and local food vendors will offer generous samples of iconic dishes such as pom and roti, paired with traditional Surinamese drinks. The music will further enhance the authentic atmosphere: the local band MOXI will perform a mix of Surinamese and Curaçaoan songs, complemented by a DJ and cultural dance performances reminiscent of celebrations in Suriname itself.

More than just a festive gathering, the anniversary event is a tribute to Surinamese community spirit and cultural heritage. A fun activity with prizes will symbolize the warmth, humor and togetherness that characterize Surinamese culture. Families, friends, colleagues and business partners with an interest in cultural and economic exchange are all invited to join.

“Taste of Suriname Curaçao” aims to introduce the Curaçao community to Suriname in a flavorful and enjoyable way — showcasing its cuisine, tourism offerings and its national airline, Surinam Airways.

With this celebration, Surinam Airways reaffirms its ongoing commitment to the Surinamese community around the world. Part of the proceeds will be allocated to cultural and educational projects. The evening will conclude with a prize ceremony and raffle drawing.
