Local | By Correspondent September 16, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The suspect in the shooting at trùk'i pan Palu Blanku has been sentenced to a longer prison term on appeal. The judge in the first instance imposed 15 years in prison, but the sentence was increased by 2.5 years on appeal.

On January 21, 2018, the suspect visited the victim who was working as a cook at trùk'i pan Palu Blanku at the time. There a discussion arose between the two of them, in which the victim was threatened with death several times. The 25-year-old cook was known to the suspect.

The man then left to change clothes and returned a moment later masked and with a weapon. The victim was shot three times and died on the spot from his injuries.

The gunman has always denied involvement in the shooting, although he was recognized by multiple eyewitnesses. The judge is in the dark about the motive for the murder and states that a higher prison sentence does more justice to the nature and seriousness of the situation. The suspect was sentenced to 17.5 years in prison.
