WILLEMSTAD - The summary proceedings brought by food importers organization BVCA against the government because of the basic food basket will take place on October 7. The BVCA interest group informed this to the media.
The case was originally scheduled for October 17, but after a protest from BVCA, it has been brought forward. The expansion of the staple food basket was previously postponed. The changes would be implemented from September 1. Economy Minister Ruisandro Cijntje first wants to wait for the outcome of the lawsuit that importers have filed.
The expansion of the basic basket would not have the desired effect, according to BVCA, because it could, for example, result in price increases for other products or the development of a black market.
