WILLEMSTAD - The Meteorological Service Curaçao (Meteo) warns of rough seas. According to the Meteo, the rough sea is caused by the strong wind. The organization issues a 'Special Warning' for this purpose.
The rough seas could threaten parts of the island's coastal areas, Meteo warns. "Swells or strong winds can cause rough seas on the coast. Surf waves can cause damage to small vessels if they are close to the sea. And flooding of coastal areas can damage beach facilities," said the Meteo.
The organization also warns sailors with small vessels to be careful when sailing in these conditions. "As flooding of coastal areas is possible, owners of coastal facilities are advised to protect them where possible. Swimmers are advised to exercise caution and not venture far from shore," said Meteo.
A Special Warning is issued, according to Meteo, for weather events that are unusual, cause general discomfort or public concern that require the attention and action of fire and police authorities.
The Rough Seas Precautionary Notice is an announcement for when rough seas are possible (10 to 30% chance) in the next 8 to 24 hours.
