Strict control on Venezuelan imports

Local | By Correspondent June 19, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Inspectors from the Ministry of Economic Development have conducted seizures of certain products originating from Venezuela. Over the weekend, several boxes of coconut biscuits, specifically the well-known Cocosete biscuits, were seized. Additionally, bottles of tamarind juice have been confiscated from boats arriving from Venezuela.

It's worth noting that Venezuelan vendors, commonly referred to as 'barkito,' have been permitted to sell fruits and vegetables on our island for the past two months. However, unlike four years ago when the borders were open, the sale of Cocosete, Malta, 'keshi blanku,' (white cheese) and dulce de leche from Venezuela is no longer permitted. Only fruits and vegetables are allowed for sale according to the ministry's regulations.

The sellers have been duly warned by authorities, but instances of attempting to sell illegal items still occur.
