"Still too few women in politics"

WILLEMSTAD - There are still not enough women in the Curaçao government and parliament, according to Aliansa, the local organization against domestic violence.

This is what Jeanne Henriquez, president of Aliansa, said yesterday in the context of International Women's Day. The women in the government have done a fantastic job during the pandemic. Still, she believes that more female leaders will lead to positive developments in the community.

The theme the United Nations has proclaimed this year is: "Women in Leadership: Creating an Equal Future in a Covid-19 World." Aliansa says that there has been a positive development in the past five years, with women becoming more empowered and sex education being provided in an integral manner.

On the other hand, the pandemic has hit single mothers extremely hard and domestic violence has increased. Aliansa hopes that all women with an aspiration to change society can bring about positive energy and change.
