THE HAGUE - From March 13 to 16, State Secretary of Justice and Security Eric van der Burg will visit Aruba, Curaçao, and Bonaire consecutively. The purpose of the trip is to get updated on migration issues, the approach to human trafficking and smuggling, and border management on the islands.
During his visit to Aruba, discussions will include possibilities to promote collaboration between border authorities. Talks on potential optimizations in the immigration chain are also on the agenda, addressing migration policies and border control.
The visit continues in Curaçao, where the state secretary will engage in discussions with employees of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND), receive updates on migration policies, and discuss the approach to human trafficking and smuggling. In Bonaire, the state secretary will be briefed on the regime of immigration detention.
Van der Burg was initially set to visit the islands in October, but he had to be hospitalized in Aruba due to severe food poisoning shortly after arriving. After some recovery, he returned to the Netherlands.
