WILLEMSTAD – An important meeting was held on January 9, 2026, to further develop plans for the construction of a dedicated mother and child care facility in Colon. The session brought together various stakeholders to deepen discussions, share ideas and define priorities for the project within a broader long-term vision.

The objective of the initiative is clear: to jointly develop a modern, adequate and sustainable healthcare facility in Colon where maternal and child care will be central. Collaboration with other healthcare partners is considered essential to ensure an integrated approach to care delivery.
During the meeting, participants emphasized the importance of clearly defining mandates and responsibilities in order to confidently move into the next phase of development. Establishing clarity in governance and coordination was highlighted as a critical step toward successful implementation.
Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas and Minister Javier Silvania Boekhoudt of the Ministry of Public Health, Environment and Nature (GMN) were present, alongside Minister Charles Cooper of the Ministry of Traffic, Transport and Urban Planning (VVRP) and Finance. The presence of three ministries underscores the interministerial nature of the project, where healthcare policy, infrastructure planning and financial management are expected to work in tandem.
With a strong focus on quality and continuity of care, the proposed Colon facility represents a significant step toward strengthening maternal and child healthcare services on the island. Officials view the project as an investment not only in healthcare infrastructure but also in the long-term well-being of Curaçao’s future generations.
