WILLEMSTAD - Government employees will be given time off during carnival, according to the Ministry of Administration, Planning, and Public Service. The condition is that the nature of the work allows for the absence. The initiative provides civil servants the opportunity to participate in the festivities and celebrate carnival.
On Friday, February 9, in honor of the Teen Parade, government employees are allowed to leave from 12:00 PM onwards. Additionally, on Tuesday, February 13, starting from 12:00 PM, employees are also excused for the concluding carnival parade, which traditionally marks the end of carnival.
The arrangement, as stipulated in Article 28 of the Regulation on Vacation and Exemption from Service for Civil Servants, allows those who cannot participate due to their duty roster to receive compensation at another time.
This means that employees who have to work during the carnival celebrations can receive hours off on another day, equivalent to the time they would miss due to the closure of government services during the festival.
