WILLEMSTAD - On Wednesday, a portion of the employees at TeleCuraçao went on strike. Tuesday evening, a notice appeared on the screen indicating that TeleCuraçao's programming was being adjusted due to internal labor issues.
There had been previous discontent as well. At that time, the employees' union, ABVO, had met with management and agreed on a protocol regarding the payment of indexation and vacation pay. Now that it's time for these payments, management has informed the employees that there are no funds available.
In a statement to the media, Marlon Manuela of ABVO confirmed that TeleCuraçao employees have taken action because management owes them a significant amount of money. The management needs to pay them vacation pay, part of the indexation, and bonuses.
"A protocol was signed in 2023 to address the situation in the first six months of this year, but management has yet to fulfill this promise," said Manuela.
