THE HAGUE – The implementation of the 'Landspakketten' (Country Packages) continues to face significant delays, as revealed in the latest execution reports sent to the Dutch Parliament and the local governments of the Caribbean Netherlands. The most recent setback has been attributed to "current political situations," according to State Secretary for Kingdom Relations, Zsolt Szabó. “Reforms often require decisions that are harder to make during election periods,” Szabó explained.
The format of the reports has been revised, with the once confrontational orange and red flags replaced by more neutral symbols. Additionally, a historical overview of past achievements has been included, highlighting the progress already made over the years.
However, the influence of local governments in the editing of the reports is apparent, especially in the one related to Aruba. The opening lines state, “The upcoming period will, as usual, see decisive action in implementing the various reforms.”
Despite the ongoing challenges, State Secretary Szabó remains optimistic: “I see a commitment to move forward, despite the complexities and the strain on the public administration’s capacity.”
