Slavery Remembrance Committee Pays Courtesy Visit to Governor

WILLEMSTAD – On Wednesday, February 4, 2026, Lucia Beck and Jefka Alberto, both representatives of the Slavery Remembrance Committee, paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Curaçao, His Excellency Mauritsz de Kort.

During the meeting, the representatives outlined the committee’s plans and activities for the year ahead. They also explained the theme of the upcoming commemoration, “Kurashi,” which will serve as the guiding principle for the projects and programs supported by the committee.

The discussion further focused on how the Governor, within the scope of his constitutional role, could contribute to and support the planned activities surrounding the remembrance of the slavery past.

The visit formed part of ongoing consultations aimed at strengthening awareness, reflection, and public engagement around Curaçao’s history of slavery and its lasting impact on society.
