WILLEMSTAD - The situation at the Malpais landfill has returned to normal, and the fire is now under control. Additionally, there should no longer be any smoke nuisance, according to an announcement by Selikor on Monday.
The waste management company stated that measures have been taken to reduce the likelihood of such incidents in the future. These measures include increased surveillance at the landfill and better covering of waste piles at the site.
The cause of the fire remains unclear. Selikor reports that an investigation is underway to determine whether the fire was deliberately set. If arson is confirmed, the company plans to file a report.
The fire broke out on June 13, causing smoke nuisances for nearby residents and businesses.
