PHILIPSBURG - Parliament has set up a 'petit committee' to conduct a preliminary investigation into the possibility of holding an advisory referendum on whether Sint Maarten should become independent.
The committee has four weeks to map out the relevant legislation, the costs of a referendum, the necessary information to citizens and a timeline. The committee consists of Members of Parliament Ludmila Duncan, Grisha Heyliger-Marten (both independent), Melissa Gumbs (Party for Progress) and Angelique Romou (National Alliance).
