PHILIPSBURG - Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs remains the largest party in Sint Maarten but loses the majority in the fifteen-seat parliament with her coalition. Her National Alliance lost two of its six seats, and coalition partner United People's (UP) lost one seat, reducing its count to three. To continue governing, Jacobs needs at least one more seat.
Newcomer Unified Resilient St. Maarten Movement (URSM) secures two seats with 2,020 votes. Curaçao's leader, Luc Mercelina, and lawyer Sjamira Roseburg, based on preferential votes, will represent them in Parliament.
Overall, the new parties performed well. The Democratic Party led by former Prime Minister Sarah Wescot makes a comeback, securing two seats. Newcomer Nation Opportunity Wealth (NOW) also obtains 2 seats.
UP party's second candidate, Omar Ottley, emerges as the top vote-getter with 775 votes, 357 more than the 418 votes he received in the 2020 elections.
A total of 22,553 individuals were registered to vote. The 14,678 votes cast represent a turnout of 65.08%, five percent higher than four years ago.
