Simons accuses Rutte of thinking superiority towards the Caribbean

Local | By Correspondent September 26, 2022

THE HAGUE - Member of Parliament Sylvana Simons (BIJ1) accused the cabinet of thinking superiority towards the governments in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom during the General Political Reflections on the King’s speech at the opening of parliament.

“Where the growing poverty in our Kingdom extends to the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, there is a distrustful attitude towards the governments and island governments of Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Bonaire, Statia and Saba. They are marked by superiority thinking and by the idea that we here in The Hague know better how to govern than they do themselves," said Simons.

“From that position arises a political unwillingness to, for example, decisively achieve a social minimum that does justice to the actual cost of living on the islands,” she added.
