WILLEMSTAD - Finance Minister Javier Silvania expressed his satisfaction this afternoon with the findings of an International Monetary Fund (IMF) report regarding Curaçao. During the annual consultation discussions between the IMF and Curaçao, along with Sint Maarten, it was highlighted that the island has shown a strong economic recovery following the pandemic, primarily driven by increased stay-over tourism. The IMF estimates that Curaçao’s economic growth for this year will reach 4.5%.
According to the IMF, this growth is attributed to new air connections, an expansion of hotel capacity, and government investments. These points were discussed during the Article IV consultation discussions held last Friday between the IMF and the governments of Curaçao and Sint Maarten.
Minister Silvania welcomed the IMF report's conclusions and emphasized the ongoing efforts of the Curaçao government to invest in sustainable growth and economic diversification. The positive outlook from the IMF reinforces the government’s commitment to fostering a robust economic environment for the island's future.
