SIGE calls for political action

Local | By Correspondent August 3, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - The Center for Innovation and Educational Guidance (SIGE) urgently calls on the politicians to take action for children who rely on donated school supplies.

With the help of private donations, SIGE has been able to donate 750 school bags filled with supplies to students. According to the government institution, the subsidy provided by the government is not sufficient. This marks the eighth time the collection campaign has been held, and SIGE has noticed an increasing demand for assistance in recent years.

Education Minister Sithree van Heydoorn acknowledges the situation, stating, "The government is doing everything it can to help, including providing subsidies to SIGE." The minister also emphasizes that parents can be assisted in other ways, such as providing free transportation to school. However, Van Heydoorn also stresses that parents must take as much responsibility as possible by handling their finances carefully.
