Local | By Press release September 16, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport (OWCS) has announced a temporary adjustment to school hours due to the forecasted extreme heat. After consulting with the meteorological service and government-subsidized school boards, a general measure has been put in place to modify the school schedule.

Starting Monday, September 16, 2024, all primary and special education schools will close at 12:00 PM for a period of two weeks. Secondary schools will operate on a shortened schedule.

Additionally, the government-subsidized school boards will follow the Ministry of Health’s guidelines to ensure the well-being of all involved.

Parents, school transport drivers, employers, the community, and other stakeholders are kindly asked to understand and cooperate with this temporary measure, which is in the interest of the health and well-being of both staff and students.

The situation is being closely monitored, and further developments or additional measures, if necessary, will be communicated by this coming Friday.
