Shairon Paulina released from prison

WILLEMSTAD - Shairon Paulina has been released under strict conditions after 20 years. He was discharged from the Sentro di Detenshon i Korekshon Korsou (SDKK), the Curaçao prison, on 25 November. He will be placed under electrical surveillance for the next six months. His probationary period is three years.

He has been in prison since 2001 for shooting someone during a robbery at Fort Waakzaamheid restaurant on Ser'i Domi. For this, he was given 24 years. After his first year in prison, he escaped. During this period, he committed a robbery in which someone was killed.

Someone with a life sentence has been allowed to go home after twenty years. This is only allowed if the Court finds that there is no reason to allow someone to stay longer. Paulina has been released on condition that he will not commit another offense. If he does, he will still have to serve his life sentence.
