Local | By Correspondent September 2, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Severe weather caused significant damage on Curaçao on Sunday, particularly in the Bandabou region, where flooding was reported. Playa Piskado sustained considerable damage due to heavy rainfall, and a tornado was observed at sea near Westpunt.

Police and firefighters were called to assist residents affected by water entering their homes as a result of intense rainfall. Several vehicles sustained water damage near the Zegu roundabout due to a torrential downpour.

Most of the reports came from the southeastern parts of the island, including Kaya Cruzeiro, Kaya Bolivar, Juan Domingo, Kaya Dubloen, and Gato. In some cases, additional support was requested from the Dutch Defense Forces, who deployed specialized units to help manage the situation.
