WILLEMSTAD - Many neighborhoods in Curaçao are affected by the large African Land Snail. The Ministry of Health calls on island residents to report the snails via Whatsapp at number 5664466.
In the Cabo Verde neighborhood, 500 are caught daily and there are more neighborhoods with this problem, says animal expert Stanley Ignacio.
According to Ignacio, the African snail does not belong in Curaçao but was introduced more than a year ago for unknown reasons. It was reported at the time, but there was no follow-up from the health authorities, until this weekend.
According to the special officer with investigative powers in animal cases, the snail is not poisonous, but it does cause a nuisance. In addition, you can get allergic reactions if you touch them. Dogs could die after eating such a snail.
