Several kayakers in different places in distress on the Caribbean Sea

Local | By Correspondent March 8, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Two passengers from a cruise ship on Bonaire and two kayakers near the Curaçao Seaquarium capsized around the same time on Sunday while taking a kayak tour. The Coast Guard's Maritime Operations Center (MOC) received both reports on Sunday morning.

The Bonairean Kayak Tour operator reported that the two needed help. The tourists had life jackets on, but given their advanced age, the tour operator's staff were concerned. The current was strong, so the kayakers soon drifted far from shore. After the report, the coastguard immediately acted and together with the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee they went looking for the two in distress. Both persons were quickly found and escaped unscathed. They are in good health.

At the same time, Sea Aquarium on Curaçao reported that two people had also capsized in a kayak. A Sea Aquarium employee had already acted, who safely returned them to the island. As a result, the MOC no longer had to act.
