Seven Coastguards sworn in as special police agents

WILLEMSTAD - Today, in a significant ceremony, Minister of Justice Mr. Hato, accompanied by Deputy Director of the Coast Guard, Joëlle de Jong – Mercelina, and other esteemed representatives from the Ministry and the Coast Guard, administered the oath to seven coastguards. This ceremony marked the culmination of their rigorous training, as they successfully completed the training for special police agents (BAVPOL) and the Basic Coast Guard Training. 

As a result of their training, these individuals are now recognized as special police agents, granting them the authority to investigate criminal offenses and undertake associated responsibilities. This achievement elevates their status to full-fledged coastguards, empowering them to execute all coast guard duties effectively. 

Minister Hato commended the dedication and commitment of the newly sworn-in coastguards, emphasizing the critical role they play in safeguarding the nation's maritime security. He highlighted the importance of their specialized training, underscoring the significance of their newfound authority in ensuring the safety and security of coastal areas. 

Deputy Director Joëlle de Jong – Mercelina echoed Minister Hato's sentiments, expressing pride in the accomplishments of the coastguards. She emphasized the significance of their role in upholding law and order at sea and protecting maritime interests. 

The successful completion of their training marks a significant milestone in the careers of these coastguards, signifying their readiness and capability to address maritime challenges effectively. Their induction as special police agents underscores their dedication to duty and their commitment to serving and protecting the community.
