Serious Crash on Mitologiaweg Leaves Father and Daughter Trapped Under SUV

WILLEMSTAD A serious traffic accident on Mitologiaweg last night left two people — a father and his daughter — trapped under an SUV after a pickup truck collided with the vehicle from behind.

According to police reports, the accident occurred when a pickup slammed into the back of a stationary SUV, causing the SUV to roll forward and run over the man and his daughter, who were standing in front of it.

Emergency Response

Emergency services, including multiple police units, an ambulance, and firefighters, rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, officers found the SUV with two individuals pinned underneath. The father managed to free himself after some time, but his daughter remained stuck, with her foot trapped under the vehicle.

Firefighters conducted a delicate and extensive rescue operation, lifting the SUV to free the young woman. Both the daughter and the driver of the pickup were transported to Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) for further medical treatment. The pickup driver had sustained a severe head injury and had lost a significant amount of blood.

Mechanical Trouble Preceded Accident

Preliminary investigation revealed that the father and daughter had been riding dirt bikes along Mitologiaweg, with the mother following behind in the SUV. When one of the dirt bikes experienced mechanical trouble, the group stopped on the roadside to check it.

At that moment, the pickup approached and, for reasons still under investigation, failed to see the stopped SUV in time, resulting in the rear-end collision. The impact forced the SUV forward, running over the father and daughter who were standing nearby.

Investigation Ongoing

Authorities have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, including whether speed, visibility, or driver distraction played a role. The identities and current conditions of the injured parties have not yet been released.

Police are urging all drivers to remain alert and cautious, especially in low-light or roadside emergency situations.
