WILLEMSTAD - Selikor has reported an overwhelming amount of waste delivered to the Malpais landfill in September. Following an announcement by the Ministry of Health, Environment, and Nature allowing free waste disposal at Malpais, the landfill received a staggering 32 million kilos of waste during the month, marking an increase of more than 200% compared to September 2023. The free disposal initiative is part of a pilot project running through September and October at both the Malpais landfill and the Koraal Specht transfer station.
Selikor NV reminds the public that those utilizing the service must present valid identification, and vehicles must have a valid inspection certificate. At the Koraal Specht transfer station, a maximum of 2 cubic meters of waste per vehicle can be dropped off, and the waste must be properly packaged in bags or boxes. For other services, residents are directed to use the Malpais landfill for waste disposal.
