Selikor receives financial support from government for clean-up efforts

Local | By Correspondent October 25, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao government has extended financial support to waste management company Selikor for multiple initiatives, announced Minister of Health, Environment, and Nature, Javier Silvania.

Selikor has received 250,000 guilders from the Ministry of Finance to cover the expenses of a large-scale clean-up campaign. This funding will contribute to efforts to clean and maintain the island's environment.

Additionally, Selikor has been granted an advance of one million guilders to offset the costs of a free waste disposal initiative. This measure is intended to encourage the public to dispose of waste properly.

Minister Silvania previously noted that he has received numerous complaints about Selikor's fees and expressed interest in evaluating whether a two-month period of free waste disposal could help reduce illegal dumping across the island.
