WILLEMSTAD - In a significant step towards sustainable waste management, waste collection company Selikor has unveiled its latest project, "Transforming waste to value." The public foundation aims to address the waste challenge on Curaçao, ensuring proper waste disposal and reducing its impact on the environment. This initiative, backed by funding from the EU, was officially inaugurated yesterday.
Waste mismanagement has been a pressing issue on the island, contributing to litter accumulation on streets, beaches, and even in the ocean. Recognizing the urgency to curb this problem, Selikor's project focuses on turning waste into valuable resources. The goal is to minimize waste pollution and enhance the island's ecological health.
One of the impending concerns is the imminent capacity exhaustion of the Malpais landfill, anticipated to reach its limit within a decade. To tackle this issue, the consulting firm Eco Vision has been entrusted with the task of exploring sustainable waste management options. Their research will play a pivotal role in determining innovative and efficient methods to handle waste.
