WILLEMSTAD – The total cost of cleaning and waste management services provided by Selikor in 2025 is projected to exceed 41 million guilders, surpassing the amount allocated by the Curaçao government for the year. This was revealed in a letter exchange between Selikor director Wesley Kook and Minister of Health, Environment, and Nature, Javier Silvania.
In the correspondence, Kook emphasized that it is “essential” for the necessary funds to be made available as soon as possible to ensure uninterrupted service.
“We are already nearly halfway through the year,” Kook pointed out, stressing the urgency of securing the required amount. He has requested that the funds be disbursed in advance of a new management agreement that is still under negotiation.
The situation highlights ongoing financial pressures in Curaçao’s public waste management sector, and raises questions about how the government will respond to Selikor’s urgent request.
