Selikor blockade lifted, impasse continues

Local | By Correspondent July 31, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Selikor employees are still taking action but have removed the blockades at the entrances of the waste processing company. A committee consisting of representatives from the unions, Selikor, and a third party is trying to break the deadlock.

Last Thursday, Selikor workers, led by their union BTG, went on strike due to three temporary employees who, after working for three and four years respectively, were not given permanent contracts.

According to the BTG chairman, these employees were not made permanent due to poor evaluations. However, this raises questions about the quality of the evaluations during those years.

After the committee meeting, it became apparent that no solution had been reached, which suggests that the employees' actions will likely continue on Monday.

Earlier, the Selikor management stated that they would take the striking workers to court through summary proceedings to get them back to work. So far, this has not happened.
