Secretary-general position disappears

Local | By Correspondent November 14, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The post of Secretary General (SG) will disappear and be replaced by that of General Manager if a proposal to do so is approved. The Minister of Administration, Planning, and Services Ornelio Martina indicates that this is the result of a government study.

Earlier it was announced that an SG would be appointed for the nine ministries of the country. The position would entail the leadership of the ministry in question, but according to Martina, the current government wants to get rid of this position.

The proposal that is now on the table is part of a restructuring of the ministries in the first instance but in the later term of the entire government. The goal is a more efficient, effective, and also smaller top of the government.

Part of the restructuring is the introduction of a general director at various ministries. The general manager is an official position for which you must apply. This person will have to lead a ministry. “We wanted to create a function that is separate from politics. If there is a new minister, there must be continuity," says Martina.

The Council of Ministers will consider the proposal in the last week of this month. If this proposal is approved, the plan will be set in motion.
