Local | By Correspondent June 26, 2024

MIAMI - A new tropical wave is developing several hundred miles south of the Cape Verde Islands, with potential to further develop next week as it moves towards the central and western parts of the Atlantic Ocean. The wave is currently causing disorganized showers and thunderstorms, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

This wave, moving westward at a speed of twenty to thirty kilometers per hour, may undergo slow development over the weekend and into early next week. Experts estimate the chance of formation by this system within 48 hours to be nearly zero percent, but within seven days, the chance increases to twenty percent.

Additionally, another tropical wave is active in the southeastern Caribbean, causing disorganized showers and thunderstorms as it rapidly moves westward at about forty kilometers per hour.

Environmental conditions may become more favorable for some gradual development by the end of the week over the western Caribbean Sea or the southwestern part of the Gulf of Mexico. The chance of formation by this system in the next 48 hours is low, estimated at ten percent, and within seven days, the chance is twenty percent.
