Search for Missing Aruban Fishermen Expands to Nicaragua and Costa Rica

ORANJESTAD The search for four missing fishermen from Aruba has entered a new phase as authorities extend efforts toward the coasts of Nicaragua and Costa Rica. The Aruban government announced the expansion following updated simulations and consultations with Colombian and diplomatic officials.

The four fishermen, who set out aboard the vessel Energy, have been missing for several weeks. Recent drift pattern analyses suggest the boat may have moved beyond Colombian waters and could now be drifting near the Central American coastline.

Colombian authorities, working in coordination with Aruba, have been conducting extensive maritime and aerial patrols across the Caribbean. They presented a detailed update on their operations during a recent meeting with the families of the missing men and Colombian Consul Gustavo Serrano Amaya in Aruba.

In response to the new findings, the government of Aruba formally contacted the Dutch Embassy in San José, Costa Rica, on July 28, requesting urgent diplomatic engagement with both Nicaragua and Costa Rica. The island is seeking active assistance through coordinated patrols, aerial surveillance, and the sharing of maritime intelligence.

Officials in Aruba emphasized their commitment to continuing the search and maintaining close contact with the families. Authorities also expressed hope that regional cooperation will increase the chances of locating the missing vessel and bringing the fishermen home safely.
