WILLEMSTAD – In 2024, Schottegatweg has been identified as the most dangerous road on Curaçao, with 979 recorded traffic accidents. This accounts for nearly nine percent of all incidents on the island, according to data from Forensys, the company responsible for recording insurance claims on behalf of insurers.
The Rooseveltweg follows as the second most accident-prone road, with 476 incidents, making up over four percent of the total. Caracasbaaiweg ranks third, with 406 accidents.
Forensys further categorizes Schottegatweg into four sections:
Schottegatweg Noord – 355 incidents
Schottegatweg West – 264 incidents
Schottegatweg Oost – 221 incidents
Schottegatweg Zuid – 139 incidents
Slight Increase in Accidents
In total, 11,294 traffic incidents were recorded across Curaçao in 2024, marking a slight increase from 2023, when 11,088 accidents were reported. This represents a nearly two percent rise in the number of crashes.
The increase is particularly notable on major roads like Rooseveltweg and Schottegatweg, where heavy traffic flow makes rear-end collisions more frequent.
The most common type of accident remains rear-end collisions, followed by side-impact crashes and collisions while reversing.

Caution in Data Interpretation
Experts warn that these statistics should be interpreted with caution. The rankings are based on absolute numbers and do not account for factors such as road length or traffic volume. As a result, busier roads naturally rank higher, while smaller roads with a high accident rate may not receive the same attention.
