Schools use a tropical schedule and take measures against the heat

Local | By Correspondent September 8, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - All primary schools of the Roman Catholic School Board (RKCS) close on Thursday and Friday at half past 12. After consultation with the Meteorological Service Curaçao (Meteo), the school board has decided to take measures due to the extreme heat.

According to the school board, many students and teachers suffer from the heat, especially in places where there is little or no ventilation. Due to the high temperatures, several students and teachers fainted in class on Wednesday.

In addition to the tropical timetable, students do not have to wear a uniform to school. In addition, the PE lessons must be given in a covered place and it is ensured that the students drink enough water. Secondary education classes last thirty minutes instead of forty minutes after the break.

The school board has informed the parents of students by letter of the measures and the tropical schedule. It will be re-evaluated on Monday.
