WILLEMSTAD - Schools will close at 11:30 today and tomorrow because of the extreme heat. This is reported by the school board of Roman Catholic schools, RKCS.
Schools in Curaçao received permission from the government earlier to prevent any problems with the heat. The Meteorological Service points out the danger of the current extreme heat.
Children can get sunstroke and cramps and also get tired more quickly.
The risks are known and schools know what to do in an emergency. The instructions for this are contained in a so-called Guideline Heat at Schools and Reception Institutions.
School leaders may in special cases end lessons and close the school. The basic principle here is that school closures are allowed at 11.30 am after the Meteo code has issued yellow. With code orange, the school can close at 10.30 am.
The school must ensure that children are adequately cared for if students cannot be picked up on time.
