WILLEMSTAD - Starting today, Monday, October 2nd, school hours for primary and secondary schools in Curaçao are returning to their normal schedules, as announced by Minister of Education Sithree van Heydoorn.
This decision was not made unilaterally. The minister consulted with school directors, the Ministry of Health, Environment, and Nature, and the Ministry of Traffic, Transportation, and Urban Planning. The Meteorological Service was also consulted in this decision-making process.
This means that primary schools will resume until 12:30 PM, and secondary schools will go back to their regular schedules with 45-minute classes. The previous measure, which required schools to close their doors during a red or orange weather warning issued by Meteo, has also been lifted.
Minister Van Heydoorn emphasized the need to remain vigilant: "We will closely monitor the temperature and heat situation. If necessary, and in consultation with the government, adjustments may be made again."
