WILLEMSTAD – The Meteorological Service of Curaçao reported today that the presence of fine Saharan dust continues to slightly reduce visibility across the island. The update came as part of the agency’s daily weather forecast.
According to the forecast for the next 24 hours, weather conditions will remain light to partly cloudy, somewhat hazy, and mostly dry in most areas. Daytime temperatures will feel warm, with light winds throughout the day. However, the chance of rain showers is expected to increase during the night.
The phenomenon of Saharan dust occurs when strong winds in North Africa lift fine, dry particles from the desert. These particles are then transported by atmospheric currents across thousands of kilometers over the Atlantic Ocean, eventually reaching the Caribbean.
While not unusual, the dust can affect visibility and sometimes pose health concerns, particularly for individuals with respiratory issues. Authorities recommend that sensitive groups limit outdoor activities when dust concentrations are high.
