WILLEMSTAD – The Meteorological Department of Curaçao reports that today’s weather will be mostly cloudy, with visible Saharan dust present in the atmosphere. Light rainfall in the early morning hours is also possible, according to the forecast.
Weather conditions are currently influenced by slightly moist air combined with an unstable atmosphere over the region. This combination is expected to produce a mostly overcast sky with localized and brief showers across the island. A weak ridge of high pressure over the Atlantic Ocean is contributing to continued easterly winds, ranging from light to moderate in strength.
The presence of Saharan dust occurs when strong winds in North Africa lift fine, dry particles from the desert, which are then carried thousands of kilometers across the Atlantic Ocean toward the Caribbean by upper-level air currents. While this phenomenon is common during this time of year, it can lead to hazy skies, reduced visibility, and mild discomfort for individuals with respiratory conditions.
Residents are advised to take necessary precautions, particularly those with asthma or other breathing-related health issues.
