WILLEMSTAD - Ruthmilda Larmonie-Cecilia, political leader of the Partido Nashonal di Pueblo (PNP), may soon take a seat in Parliament representing her party. Although Larmonie-Cecilia herself states that nothing is definitive yet, Curaçao Chronicle has learned from independent sources within the party leadership that efforts are actively underway to make this scenario a reality.
For Larmonie-Cecilia to enter Parliament, one of the three current PNP members must decide to step down.
The party leadership has already held discussions to determine whether Sheldry Osepa, Gwendell Mercelina, or Elvin Gerard should give up their seat so that Larmonie-Cecilia can join Parliament. The PNP currently holds three seats, after Corine Djaoen-Genaro withdrew from the party earlier this week and joined the new majority in Parliament, consisting of MFK, KEM, and independent member Zita Jesus-Leito.
On Monday, August 26, the PNP will hold an informative meeting about the latest political developments and the party’s position. The meeting will take place at Kas di Pueblo and will begin at 7:00 PM. Last Monday, August 21, the three PNP ministers—Larmonie-Cecilia, Ornelio ‘Kid’ Martina, and Ruisandro Cijntje—submitted their resignations to the governor.
