WILLEMSTAD - Royal Holding Company II B.V., the developer behind The View Resort & Marina project in Zakitó, criticizes recent reports of alleged destruction of mangrove trees and damage to coral reefs due to construction activities in Zakitó. The company asserts that these claims are unfounded and that necessary measures have been taken to protect the natural habitat.
According to spokesman Adam Kiolle, director of gmfb-realestate, there is no destruction of the mangrove area. "Domain management, after advice from Ecovision, has concluded that the positioning of the buildings and roads provides sufficient guarantees to preserve the mangroves," Kiolle said. He emphasizes that there is a replanting obligation for the few mangroves that need to make way for the marina.
Regarding coral protection, the company states that the density of coral at the planned breakwater location is lower than the legal thresholds, allowing for an exemption for the works. "Based on careful coral research, we have chosen a design and positioning for the breakwater that minimizes impact," Kiolle explains.
Furthermore, precautions are being taken to protect nearby coral from harmful sediment. "At the mouth of the marina, we only work during rising water, which prevents turbidity and flushes the inland water away from the coral," Kiolle elaborates.
The company regrets not having the opportunity to respond to the recent articles and emphasizes the importance of fair and balanced reporting in journalism. "This could have prevented many inaccuracies and unrest."
