Royal Decoration for Governor Lucille George-Wout

 

WILLEMSTAD - On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, the State Secretary for the Interior and Kingdom Relations, His Excellency Eddie van Marum, on behalf of His Majesty King Willem-Alexander, officially presented a Royal Decoration to the Governor of Curaçao, Her Excellency Lucille George-Wout, during a ceremony at the Governor’s Residence in Fort Amsterdam.

Governor George-Wout was honored for her exceptional service in public administration, culture, and social cohesion, and was promoted to the rank of Commander in the Order of Orange-Nassau.

Her Excellency Lucille George-Wout holds the distinction of being the first woman to serve as Governor of Curaçao. State Secretary Van Marum praised her leadership, stating:

“As the first female governor, you are an example — for women, for girls, for everyone. You have shown that leadership is not a matter of being a man or a woman, but of conviction and courage.”

Throughout her career, Governor George-Wout has dedicated herself wholeheartedly to strengthening cooperation within the Kingdom, serving as a constant and authoritative example of empathetic leadership, integrity, and good governance. As Governor, she played a key role in the constitutional development of Curaçao within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, ensuring the rule of law in decision-making processes.

She also made a significant contribution to major national and social issues in recent years. Van Marum highlighted her leadership during critical moments, saying:

“In times of crisis, you stood tall — during the COVID-19 pandemic, you fostered unity within the Kingdom during the 70th anniversary of the Charter, and you gave voice to our shared history of slavery.”

Governor George-Wout has been widely recognized as a leader of deep love for her island and its people, demonstrating an unwavering sense of duty and responsibility throughout her tenure.
