WILLEMSTAD There is still a group of drivers who do not care about the ban on heavy trucks driving in and through Julianadorp. This is often accompanied by high speed and a lot of noise. Residents of Julianadorp write this in a press statement.
They are pleased that, after years of demanding attention, their call for prohibitory signs for freight traffic has been heard, but the trucks that don't care are now causing major safety risks for the children and adults who walk, cycle and cross the street. Another consequence is that the road surface has now been destroyed, according to the residents.
Traffic in and around Julianadorp is busy due to the construction of the roundabouts on Jan Noordynweg and Sint Michielsweg. The temporary opening and cut-through between the Kaminda Dr. Amado Römer, which goes to Bullenbaai and Julianadorp causes a continuous stream of heavy traffic. The opening on the side of the Kaminda Dr. Amado Römer was temporary, but it was never closed again.
The residents recognize that this temporary road also offers advantages for parents who take their children to and from the schools in Julianadorp every day, but these do not outweigh the disadvantages of heavy truck traffic, which is also prohibited.
That is why the residents ask truck drivers to use the roads outside the residential area, i.e. Helmin Magno Wiels Boulevard and Kaminda Dr. Amado Romer. These roads are made for heavy traffic.
