WILLEMSTAD - Residents of Doradostraat have raised concerns over recent developments at the Baoase Luxury Resort, particularly regarding the transformation of a pier into what now appears to be a small island. Locals claim that the original purpose of the pier was to serve as a wave breaker, but it has since been altered into a structure far different from what was initially promised.

According to the residents, the resort management had previously assured them that the pier would be modified solely to reduce the impact of waves. However, the current construction looks more like a fully developed island, prompting dissatisfaction among the neighboring community.
In response to their concerns, the residents reached out again to the resort's management. The resort, however, maintains that it has received all necessary permits to proceed with the construction. One of the resort's owners stated that the area being developed is leased land and that the resort is operating within the legal framework.
The owner also emphasized that the current structures, which include small cottages made from shipping containers, are temporary and will not cause permanent environmental damage. He added that the ongoing investment aligns with the goals of boosting Curaçao's tourism sector and adheres to the guidelines set by the Ministry of Traffic, Transportation, and Urban Planning (VVRP).
Despite these assurances, the residents remain skeptical, expressing concerns about the long-term impact of the development on the neighborhood and the environment. The situation continues to be a point of contention between the luxury resort and the local community.
