WILLEMSTAD – Five people were swept into the ocean this week along the rugged north coast of Curaçao, near Watamula. The incident occurred around 6:00 PM on Tuesday while the group was searching for sea snails along the cliff edge and were caught off guard by strong waves.
Three individuals managed to climb back to safety on their own. However, two others were unable to get out of the water, prompting police to request assistance from the Coast Guard.
The Maritime Operations Center immediately dispatched a helicopter to the scene. Both stranded individuals were successfully rescued from the water. One of them, a woman, was found unconscious, while the other, a man, was alert and conscious.
The victims were flown to the Coast Guard support station at Hato, where two ambulances were waiting. The woman regained consciousness upon being handed over to medical personnel.
Thanks to the swift and coordinated response of emergency services, both individuals were safely rescued from the sea. Their condition is currently reported as stable.
