WILLEMSTAD -The borders with Venezuela will be reopened no later than the first week of January. At least that is what Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas hopes. He announced that during an interview yesterday.
The ambassador of the Netherlands in Caracas is working hard to reach an agreement with Venezuela. On Monday, a meeting took place between the ambassador and the vice president of Venezuela.
Since 2019, the borders between Venezuela and the ABC Islands have been closed. President Maduro made this decision at the time. He wanted to block transit by air and sea. In that period there was talk of humanitarian aid that would be sent from Curaçao. The Aruban government is less hopeful. In a press release, Evelyn Wever-Croes' cabinet states that negotiations have not yet started.
